Introduction

History of the Department

Established in 1994, the Department of International Business was originally known as the Department of International Trade. In the very beginning, the department recruited only one class of undergraduate students every year. From 1998, the recruitment of students increased to two classes per year with the MOE's permission.

With the development of society and changing demands for talent from enterprises, the traditional concept of “international trade” can no longer interpret the fashions and trends of internationalized and globalized business behavior. In order to meet the practical requirements, we not only actively kept adjusting our curricula but also submitted our application to MOE for changing the name of our department. With great efforts, we were granted by MOE to change the name of the department in 2000.

Career Planning and Prospect for the Students

In addition to pursuing further study in related domestic graduate institutes, many of our graduates choose to achieve their further education abroad.

As our educational objective is to cultivate all-round talents, our graduates are quite welcome in three domains of fields: international economics & banking, international enterprises & marketing, and international trade & regulations.

Also, many of our graduates choose to engage in public service through national examinations to become officers of international trade, finance, customhouses, etc. Others select international business management-related jobs in the private sector.

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) was founded in 1916 to accredit schools of business. The current mission is to advance quality management education worldwide through accreditation, thought leadership, and value-added services. It is regarded as the benchmark for business school quality among the academic community.

The first accreditation took place in 1919. For many years, only North American business schools were accredited by AACSB (at that time, AACSB stood for the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business). It was an early supporter of internationalizing business education. The first school outside North America to be accredited was the top French business school ESSEC, in 1997.

The College of Management (COM), the College of Tourism and Hospitality (COTH) and the International College(IC) in I-Shou University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan have earned the AACSB accreditation in February 2016. It is the 755th school around the world and the 14th school in Taiwan that has earned AACSB accreditation. It is the first school that has three colleges accredited at the same time.
